New Music for the week 8th June 2020
We add music to our library all the time, sometimes classic artistes or bands that we were missing some of their classic tracks and sometimes from not so classic bands who left us a memorable song which we stumbled across. Also each week we add new tracks to our ‘New’ category, these are new releases or prereleases which then remain in the new category for a couple of weeks before being absorbed into the library. We are quite proud of the fact that as well as playing those great tracks from across the decades we also play the up and coming bands, many of which you may have never heard of before.
The current upheavals in the world are still having a marked effect on many of the musical community, and you can hear it reflected in the songs. So, onto this weeks collection of new tracks as suggested by our dear friend ‘The Music Truffler‘ Kathy, listen out for the Broken Arrows track it sounds like they travelled back to the 60’s to record it.:
Ray LaMontagne – Strong Enough – Monovision – 26th June
8th album with 10 new tracks written by him. Self-produced and self-engineered as well as providing all the backing instrumentation.
Rufus Wainwright – Peaceful Afternoon – Unfollow the Rules – 10th July (originally 24th April)
He says that he would like this album to symbolize a coming together of all the aspects of his life. And of this song, now more than ever he thinks there’s probably nothing we desire more than to simply have a peaceful afternoon.
Napoleon Demps – Norma Jean
The latest member of the Daptone team who comes from Flint in Michigan.
Greyhounds – Stay Here Tonight – Primates – 10th July
Austin Texas duo Andrew Trube and Anthony Farrell (one time members of JJ Grey and Mofro’s touring band). They are celebrating 20 years on stage this year.
Yusuf – Where Do The Children Play – Tea for the Tillerman 2 – 18th September
Cat Stevens – reimagined take on his 1970 album T4tT. He will be exploring all 11 songs in a new light with 50 years of life experience.
Joe Bonamassa – When One Door Opens
Track from his forthcoming album (as yet untitled) and it’s been written with his long-time producer Kevin Shirley and songwriter Pete Brown.
The Broken Arrows – The Worst of the Rest
A new release which is also a goodbye as the band have now called it a day. It’s a song for our troubled times, posing the question “how did the USA change enough to get this low?” Written before the pandemic crisis it’s a dig at the crisis of leadership and culture that defines it.
Serratone – Groovy Lucy
A 3 piece from the North of England who formed when they were in school in 2015.
Larkin Poe – Back Down South (ft Tyler Bryant) – Self Made Man – 12th June
Grammy award nominated sister duo, Larkin Poe with a new track from their forthcoming album due out 12th June. It’s a love song to the south. They say they take pride in being part of a new generation of music makers who are building on the foundations that were laid by countless musical pioneers across the American South.
Have a great week,
The Radio Dude.
